Eliokem's Chinese latex plant and new Sunigum grade
F rench chemical company Eliokem has opened its US$25 million Chinese Pilocord latex plant for the production of tyre cords. Together with its French facility, the company has a capacity of 50,000 tonnes/year making it the largest producer for this type of latex in the global market. The company also recently launched an enhanced grade of Sunigum P2100 for gasketing applications.
The company says one in three radial passenger cars tyres worldwide use its Pliocord VP latex. Several batches of the latex have now been successfully produced at the new facility and the product is being sampled for customer approval, with commercialisation expected in early 2011.
Eliokem Shanghai is scheduled to manufacture at a later date other lattices based on emulsion technology according to regional demands and opportunities. The site benefits from 44,000 sq m of additional land for further expansions and a potential to increase the plant's capability by several times.
As for its Sunigum P2100, Eliokem says the enhanced resilience allows compounders to formulate cost effective flexible PVC window gaskets in any colour, with low compression set, meeting all European specifications.
The polymer, which is based on an acrylate chemistry and produced in powder form via a patented process, can be blended and processed with a large variety of thermoplastics like TPU, COPE, ASA, ABS, PA and SEBS bringing soft touch, enhanced processing, chemical, oil and fat resistance.
