Polyplex aiming for further growth

T

he fourth largest producer of thin PET film in the world, Thailand-based Polyplex is venturing into thick PET film to diversify its product range. It also has US$202 million of new investments under implementation in Thailand and the US that are scheduled for completion over the next two years.

The investments include the installation of a silicone coating line in Thailand by 2013; PET thin film line/ PET resin line in the US by 2014; PET thick film line in Thailand by 2014 and a PP blown film line in Thailand by 2014.

The company said in its recent earnings review that its board had approved the relocation of a PET thin film line from Turkey to the US, which it says is a strategic decision to further diversify its manufacturing base "and capture the growth potential in the North American region."

Projecting a growth of 8-10% a year, Polyplex expects demand for its products to come from the changing lifestyles of consumers for "ready to eat" foods and from new applications like photovoltaics and touchscreen panels that will drive the growth of thick PET film.
