KM increases plant size and works with LG on electronic devices

G

ermany machinery maker Krauss Maffei (KM) says extension work on its new production plant for automation solutions is progressing quicker than planned. In other news, the company has tied up with LG Electronics to develop electronic devices.

Work on the production hall's interior fittings and the construction of the assembly stations will start in September, with start up planned for November, the company said. The production area is being doubled to 1,570 sq m to cover the growing demand for automated production cells for injection moulding.

In other news, the company is to work with South Korean LG Electronics to drive technological development in electronics devices. The agreement was signed in Munich and LG Electronics also ordered more injection moulding machines from KM's MX series.

The machines will be installed in the development department of the company's mould technology centre, currently under construction in Pyeongtaek-si, South Korea.

KM expects to partake its technology on integrated processes in multi-process systems such as CoverForm, SkinForm or ColorForm.

The companies say the cooperation agreement is a logical further step in a working partnership that has already been in existence for three years and which began with the shipment of MX injection moulding machines to LG Electronics.

To ensure that LG Electronics has the scope to handle a range of development projects for future products, the injection moulding machines were supplied with a number of specific process modules. With module packages such as SpinForm (for the production of multi-component parts), they are ready for universal use in LG's R&D centre.

The development focus is on new solutions for cost-competitive, efficient and variable production of components for electronics equipment, said LG.
