Taiwanese venture for protective film supplier

D

ue to the increasing demand for LCD flat panel televisions, Japanese supplier Toray Advanced Film says it will set up a surface protection film plant in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, to start up by 2013.

The plant will have a capacity of 17,000 tonnes/year and is Toray's first plant for its Toretec PE-based self-adhesive film outside Japan. Toretec is used during the manufacture of optical films and panels used in LCD displays.

In recent years, with LEDs gaining popularity as backlights for LCDs, demand for surface protection films has rapidly increased across Asia led by demand in luminance improvement films and light guide panels, materials indispensable for production of LED-based LCDs.The company also manufactures Toretec film in Japan and it will incresae its capacity to 20,000 tonnes/year by the end of this year.
