Lighter PVDF foam for airplanes

S

olvay Specialty Polymers has introduced a second generation Solef PVDF foam for the aircraft market. The product is a mouldable PVDF foam that is certified to be resistant to flame, total heat release, low toxicity on combustion products and reduced optical smoke density.

Solef PVDF's base polymer matrix allows for increased mechanical properties and higher temperature rating compared to the first generation of Solef 80000 series e-PVDF. Furthermore, the new material allows a weight reduction, up to a 50% density decrease over the existing product, which is already sixteen times lighter than Solef PVDF resin. The new product is offered as foamed moulded items.
