Chinaplas hits visitor mark

T

his year's Chinaplas attracted a total of 109,858 visitors, a 16.7% increase over last year's 94,084. Exhibitors suggested increasing the duration of the show from four to five days, lamenting that the show has reached a size (210,000 sq m) comparable to the largest plastics show K, which runs for eight days.

Overseas visitors made up a figure of 28,110, a 47.4% increase from last year's 19,069. Similar to previous events, visitor population was its highest on the second day, with over 39,000 visitors in one day.

According to the organiser Adsale Exhibition, despite occupying an exhibition space of 210,000 sq m, it still experienced difficulty in accommodating all the companies who wanted to take part in the exhibition.

About half of the 2,700 exhibitors came from foreign countries and over 500 companies made their debut at this year's event. Hence, this explains this year's addition of the Thailand and Korean pavilions.

In 2011, China's total packaging market reached US$90 trillion and is expected to grow by 9.8% annually for the next few years. Also in the same year, plastics both rigid and flexible accounted for 33% of the packaging material used in China. By 2016, plastic usage will increase to 38%. This is the draw factor for the largest show in the Asian region and the second to the K in the world.

Next year's show will be held in Guangzhou from 20-23 May.
