New technology enables EVA sheet manufacturing

New technology enables EVA sheet manufacturing
E

VA sheets can now be produced at high output through Krauss MaffeiBestorff's new flat sheet extrusion system. The new system is said to support EVA sheets of over 3m with optimal visual properties, return for the edge trimming, and low shrinkage.

EVA is an advanced raw material for technical sheets and foils and to date, raw material manufacturers are ramping up capacity for EVA and developing solutions for various applications. According to the company, the new flat-sheet extrusion line helps address the needs of both markets.

A special downstream unit and the twin-screw extruder are core components of the new extrusion line. Based on tests, the new extrusion system produces EVA sheets with high transparency. They exhibit a transmission in a glass EVA glass test body in the spectral range between 420 and 1,100 nm of 99%. Simultaneously, the shrinkage of up to 45% at present could be reduced to below 5%. And the highlight of these results is that they were determined for both a commercial formula for a new product and for a sample that had been recycled three times. The recyclability of EVA sheets makes the manufacturing process significantly more economical and ecologically sound, and thus more lucrative for foil manufacturers, said the company.
