More PET in the global market

T

hai company Indorama Ventures, which had previously announced a 220,000 tonnes/year PET resin plant to serve Europe, has confirmed that the plant will be in Poland. Meanwhile, South Korean SKC has contracted plant engineering for its optical grade PET at its Jincheon facility.

Indorama says the decision to base its plant in Poland was taken "to benefit from economies of scale from its existing PET facility and co-site with an existing third party PTA supplier." The expansion is expected to be completed in 2013 and will take its total capacity in Poland to 360,000 tonnes/year and in Europe to around 1.3 million tonnes/year. It has five PET plants in Europe.

SKC, meanwhile, has awarded the plant engineering contract to Uhde Inventa-Fischer. The plant will have two lines with production capacities of 144,000 and 54,000 tonnes/year respectively. The commissioning of both is scheduled in 2012.
