Amut expands into waste treatment

talian machinery maker Amut, which makes extrusion, thermoforming and recycling equipment, has acquired Comer Engineering and is setting up a a new company to manage the recycling of urban solid waste.

Comer makes equipment and plants for sorting and treating waste, including plastics and tires. Amut's related business makes equipment for washing and recycling thermoplastics.

Amut and Comer have worked together in the past and with this acquisition Amut says it will have technical and commercial synergy.

Meanwhile, Amut has set up Amut Ecotech unit, which will focus on recycling urban solid waste. It will incorporate Comer Engineering's experience in a number of sectors and specific competence in lines and plants for sorting and treatment of solid, industrial and similar urban waste; sorting and treatment of plastics and tyres; treatment of E&E waste; composting and bio-stabilisation; treatment of dry fraction; treatment and transport of inert materials.

The company says the unit has started its activities and has already received orders valued at EUR10 million.
