Film wraps for frozen goods

Expanding its portfolio for the frozen foods market, ExxonMobil created two films, the OPPalyte 42 WOS-RH film, a one-side sealable film with a cavitated core that is used in high humidity environments, and the OPPalyte 42 WOW film for high-gloss wrap requirement (suitable for ice cream sandwiches).

The company said that the advantage of OPPalyte over the conventional film and paper is that it can improve operations and reduce total cost of use It’s glossy, eye-catching package designs is attractive to consumers, including the impulse purchasers of on-the-go-treats in convenience stores, kiosks, vending machines, stadiums and amusement parks.

The film is engineered with proprietary surface technology for robust machine performance in the highly variable relative humidity (RH) conditions encountered in frozen novelty foods manufacturing facilities. As a result, OPPalyte 42 WOS-RH film can improve line efficiency, increase output, and reduce downtime and product waste.

"During required cleaning of frozen dairy production assets, manufacturers often experience condensation build-up on packaging lines which affects performance," said Scott Wilkins, market segment manager, ExxonMobil Chemical Films Business. "OPPalyte 42 WOS-RH is designed to provide consistent line performance on multi-lane wrappers 24 hours a day, even during high humidity conditions,“ he added.

The film’s excellent seal strength, puncture resistance, very good ink adhesion and converting performance makes it suitable frozen novelties such as ice cream cones and sandwiches, ice cream bars on a stick, chocolate-coated ice cream bars, fruit bars, and water ice products, replacing paper packaging. Moreover, OPPalyte 42 WOS-RH reduces sticking and tearing so pieces of the wrapper are not left on the frozen novelty.

Another product enhancement for the frozen novelty market, the OPPalyte 42 WOW film, is designed specifically for ice cream sandwich overwraps. It provides a premium high-gloss, bright white wrap that allows graphics to "pop," helping to drive consumer appeal. With new technology, it can deliver higher yields than typical materials currently being used. The seals are strong to maintain package integrity and product quality, but can be peeled for easier opening. Moreover, it features excellent stiffness and hot slip, and provides outstanding print performance for flexographic and rotogravure printing.
