Plastindia takes off on a win-win note

A full-packed opening day of the 6-day Plastindia exhibition being held in the Gujarat Exhibition

Centre, Helipad Grounds, Gandhinagar – Ahmedabad, provided a snapshot of India’s flourishing plastics industry. The venue is befitting for the show, being one of India’s largest producer of plastics, according to Gujarat’s Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who inaugurated the event that is organised by the Plastindia Foundation.

On its 10th edition, Plastindia is transformed into a melting pot of some 2,000 exhibitors from over 40 countries, showcasing technologies and innovations in growth segments of automotive, packaging, consumer goods, healthcare, 3D printing, materials and composites, infrastructure, and the like.

India’s important role in global plastics manufacturing is undisputable. It is targeted to become the 7th largest manufacturing base and 3rd largest plastic consumer in the world by 2020, supported by its population base rising further from the current 1.3 billion (middle class population is estimated at 400 million, to date). Plastics consumption is expected to double in the packaging segment within five years; and would account for US$2 million tonnes in the agricultural segment. Meanwhile, infrastructure will drive a US$2 trillion expenditure for plastics by 2020.

What more, the country boasts of 30,000 processing units and leading exports volume. It has more than 2000 exporters, and shipping out to over 150 importing countries worldwide.

The ongoing Plastindia show showcases the country’s mettle as one of Asia’s and the world’s torch bearers in plastics manufacturing destination. Co-located events include the 5th Edition of Proplast, a showcase of India’s burgeoning plastics processing capability; the 10th International Conference; the Plasticon Awards; and the B2B Meets, a networking opportunity for international buyers to meet and deal with the exhibitors.

Plastindia is ongoing until the 12th of February.
