Macchi loses a key figure

The Managing Director of Italian extrusion machinery maker Macchi, Alessandro Macchi, was found dead recently in Rapallo, east of Genoa, in Italy. A statement issued by the company said that his death was surrounded by “unclear circumstances”.

The 46-year old Alessandro was the son of Luigi Macchi, who founded the company in 1960. Based in Venegono Inferiore, north-west of Milan, Macchi today has 100 employees and chalks up an annual turnover of EUR55 million. Luigi Macchi is still involved in the company, which is also run by another son and a daughter. Alessandro joined the company at the age of 19 and was a key figure in the evolution of the company, which started with the production of packaging film.
