BASF consolidates additives business
Having bought Ciba Plastic Additives last year, German company BASF is now selling off assets it deems are not a strategic fit in its business scope. One of these is its hydrophilic melt additives business, which it is selling to US-based Techmer PM, a manufacturer of colours and additives for the plastics and fibre industries. The additives are currently marketed as Irgasurf HL but may not be under the new ownership.

John R. Manuck, President/CEO of Techmer PM, said “We are excited about the acquisition of BASF’s hydrophilic melt additives business and are in a unique position to successfully grow this business because it complements our existing product line and strong presence in the markets of fibres and non-wovens.”

The transaction will include intellectual property and technical information but no transfer of the trademark Irgasurf, tangible assets or personnel and will have no impact on BASF’s organizational structure.

BASF is a leading manufacturer, supplier and innovation partner of additives and pigments, including UV light stabilisers, antioxidants and process stabilisers, organic and inorganic pigments, effect pigments and other additives.

Both companies have agreed not to disclose financial details of the transaction.
